Apple Hiring iPhone Antenna Engineers

Three Apple job postings for iPhone / iPad antenna engineers to "Define and implement antenna system architecture to optimize the radiation performance for wireless portable devices." All three were posted on June 23rd, the same day that we started seeing widespread reporting of the left-handed reception issues. Coincidence?

Apple AppStore No Longer Supports iOS 2.x Apps

The App Store will no longer support iOS 2.x applications, according to the iOS 4 Readiness Checklist for developers.

Existing apps in the Apps Store and those built using iPhone SDK 3.1.3 should already run on iOS 4 without modification. However, you should test your existing apps on a development device running iOS 4 to be certain there aren't any compatibility issues. All new applications and updates to existing applications must be built with iPhone SDK 4. Please note, the App Store will not longer support applications that target iOS 2.x.

Apple also recommends resubmitting your application with high resolution artwork for those who have not done this already.

iPhone 4 and iPad Shot Dead

iPhone 4 and iPad shot with a 50 cal rifle. AWESOME!

On June 24th, Apple released the new iPhone 4 to an overwhelmingly enthusiastic public response. My good buddy, Richard Ryan, waited in line for over 24 hours, and got the first iPhone 4 in Sherman Oaks. But "facetime video chat" was the last thing he had in mind for the device... muahahahaha.

Finger Painting on an iPad with a Live Model

David Kassan painted a portrait right from his iPad!

A quick Apple ipad live fingerpainting demo that I streamed live from my Brooklyn studio on Monday June 21st. 2010, The model sat for 3 hours as I painted and answered questions on how I use the iPad and the Brushes app. Just thinking of creative uses for the ipad.

Windows Live Messenger Hits 1Million Downloads

According to Microsoft, Windows Live Messenger has reached 1 million downloads in only 5 days of its release! Incredible!

In just 5 days, over one million people downloaded the Windows Live Messenger app for iPhone that launched last week! This early momentum is fantastic, and we really appreciate the feedback we’ve been getting from many of you. We look forward to updating the iPhone app shortly to address a few issues that users have pointed out, and continuing to improve the experience.

Windows Live Messenger is Free in App Store. Here.

China: Air Phone No. 4 with FaceTime app

China does it again! This time with Air Phone No. 4, with FaceTime app. It also includes stuff like Safari, Mail, "Games," "Sound"...

We've already seen some pretty good iPhone 4 KIRFs, but it looks like there's a new king in town: the Air Phone NO. 4. Not only does it faithfully emulate the iPhone 4's hardware design with what we can only assume is the highest quality materials (it even eliminates those pesky seams), but it packs a "non-smartphone OS" that has all your favorite apps including Safari, Mail, "Games," "Sound" and, last but not least, FaceTime -- or a FaceTime icon, at least. Curious to see what other wonders await behind that familiar veneer? Then you can apparently snag one of these in China right now for just $100.

Lawsuit Against Apple Coming Soon?

Sacramento, California-based Kershaw, Cutter & Ratinoff is trying to put together a group of customers who are having reception issues with the iPhone 4 for a potential class-action lawsuit.

It's a law firm that's known for starting or threatening class actions against tech companies now has its sights on Apple.

Kershaw, Cutter & Ratinoff, LLP is conducting what the law firm calls a "Consumer Investigation" into the reception problems now known as the "iPhone 4 Death Grip." Their website urges people who “recently purchased the new iPhone and have experienced poor reception quality, dropped calls and weak signals” to contact them by phone, live chat, and email. Although they're not talking lawsuit at this time, it's clear that's what the "investigation" is about.

Apple's official response to the Death Grip issue is still to just tell customers not to hold their iPhones in a way that lowers signal. Steve Jobs said explicitly in an email to a customer that "[t]here is no reception issue." Despite rumors of a firmware patch, no further action on the problem has even been hinted at by the manufacturer, which is generally silent about issues (like the 27-inch iMac screen glitches) until they have a fix in place. As Steve Jobs added in his email: "Stay tuned."

Apple Support Procedures for Reception Issues Leaked!

The antenna issues plaguing the iPhone 4 have infuriated many iPhone users (and rightfully so), but have you ever wondered how Apple is training its employees to deal with the fiasco? Well thanks to one of our Apple connects, we now know the exact procedures AppleCare reps must follow when dealing with any reception complaints regarding the iPhone 4. Hit the jump to check them out.

Clearly Apple is taking the position that nothing is wrong with the antenna, although that’s not surprising since most companies will never willingly admit their flagship product is potentially suffering from an unfixable flaw. But does anyone else find it interesting, if not troubling, that there is no mention of an impending software fix?

My Blog Stats

After 9 days of uptime, here are the stats to my blog.. Weird spikes during the 1st few days... could be because of the Jailbreak news on those days? At least now the traffic is starting to stabilize.

I think this crowd size is manageable for a 1-man show iPhone Blog... If traffic increases i would have to get someone else to help manage this blog. :D

Here are the figures!

iPhone3GS on iOS4 Overheating..

These few days on iOS4 Jailbroken with Sn0wbreeze, I have come to realize my 3GS is rather warm all the time... not sure why when i have only Mobilephone and iPod in the Multitasking dock.. Only just now my Phone was so hot that i could see condensation between my phone and the casing.. it almost freaked me out..

Word of advice, do not update to iOS4 till it settles down. I believe Apple would be coming out with a new iOS4 soon, ie. iOS4.01? To address these issues like the iPhone 3G being very sluggish on iOS4 even though multitasking is not available.

EDIT: I uninstalled iMovie app from my phone and everything back to normal, i think.. gonna observe my phone for a little longer..

iMovie on iPhone 3GS, My 3GS :D

Hey yes everyone knows iMovie is only avaiable to the iPhone 4. But hey! I got it on my iPhone 3GS! I didnt use videos but i just tested with some images from my library... I just took me less than 30mins to come up with this video!

Some of the images were taken with my 3GS and some are not.... Those taken with my 3GS are the clearer images... XD Imagine what an iPhone 4 could do!

It's pretty difficult to edit the movies cause I thought that the iPhone screen is too small.. But what the hack, it does look cool!

Watch it here!

A Video Recorded on iPhone 4 With iMovie Editing!

After watching the video, it makes me want to buy the iMovie App on my iPhone 3GS, even though it only works on the iPhone 4... HEHE..

=====

Shot and edited entirely on the iPhone 4 / iMovie App (in 48 hours).

**Check back in the next day or two as we are currently editing a full behind the scenes video showing how exactly we did every step of the process.**

30 Years of Apple in 2 Minutes

Gary Katz of Mac M.D. has compiled a video showcasing the progression of Apple design over the last thirty years.

An Apple a day...Take a look at the design and progression of Apple computers from the Apple II to the current models. This video shows the computers I've kept for one reason or another morphing from one design to the next. It's a little over 30 years in a little over 2 minutes. Sadly, it doesn't include many iconic Apple products (Apple IIc, Apple IIgs, Quadra etc), only the machines I've personally owned or acquired over the years.

OpenSSH and Sbsettingtoggles

Note: Jailbreak for 3GS sticky taken off, you can still find it in The Jailbreak Goodies categories.

Yes, if you were using it the past few days you would have noticed an error after afew minutes later. This is because of a bug with Sbsettingtoggle. As of today, Bigboss have released a fix version to this issue.

I have already tested it by rebooting, respringing and I still have a good connection via OpenSSH. Finally, i can theme my phone with ease. Using iFile was tedious... xD

EDIT: Theming my iPhone 3GS is almost complete!! YAY!! but there are some new images still unknown to me.. haiz..

Apple iPhone 4 Parts Cost About US$188

iSuppli actually tore down the iPhone 4 just to calculate the prices of each part in the iPhone!

Researchers at iSuppli tore down the latest iPhone to find parts from LG Display, Samsung, and Broadcom

Apple's iPhone 4 wireless handset includes components that cost as little as $187.51, according to market research firm iSuppli.

Materials and parts for Apple's (AAPL) iPhone, which went on sale on June 24, include a 3.5-inch LCD screen that Apple calls a "retina display." As the smartphone's most expensive component, it costs $28.50 and may have been made by LG Display (034220:KS), iSuppli says. The iPhone 4 sells for $199 and $299.

Research firms conduct so-called teardown analysis of consumer electronics products to determine component prices, identify suppliers, and estimate profit margins. Keeping iPhone-part prices low helps Apple wring higher profit from its bestselling product, which made up 40 percent of revenue last quarter.

"Over the years, the iPhone has generally tended to hover in the $170-to -$180 cost range because Apple seems to be trying to hit some kind of budget," Kevin Keller, who helped conduct the iSuppli teardown, says in an interview.

The estimate doesn't include costs for items such as labor, shipping, advertising, software development, or patent licensing. ISuppli analyzed a 16-gigabyte version of the iPhone 4. As with the iPad, Apple used an internally designed A4 processor that was made by Samsung Electronics (005930:KS) and costs an estimated $10.75, says El Segundo (Calif.)-based iSuppli.

Winterboard on iOS 4

Well Winterboard is finally working on iOS 4. A little warning before you install Winterboard and your themes, as iOS 4 did a lot of changes in the OS, i realized that there are a lot of changes in the UI, most of which are still the same but some are different and these difference are the result of Springboard crashes you'll experience if your are not careful.

As of now, I'm remodeling my personal theme folders and getting a few Springboard crashes.. Hopefully i'll be back to my old theme!

Here i managed to get back my SMS wallpaper. You can also see that I'm on iOS 4 with that Multitasking Dock, Jailbroken with Cydia there. xD

DIY White iPhone 4

While the world waits for the release of the White iPhone 4, Engadget decided to make their iPhone 4 White!
Here is what they posted:

Sorry, we couldn't wait -- having spent 11 hours on the streets waiting for the iPhone 4, it's only natural to give our precious new toy some extra special care. With the help of iFixit's teardown guide, we decided to take the plunge with our steaming hot Chinese delivery -- a white front cover (with a shiny proximity sensor area above the earpiece), a white back cover (with "XXXXX" marked as the model number, ergo a prototype), and a Retina Display unit. Alas, there weren't any white buttons in stock at the time, but let's pretend this black-and-white combo is the new cool. Read on to find out how the surgery went.

iPhone 4 Successfully Jailbroken!

The heading says it all! The iPhone 4 has been Jailbroken by @planetbeing with the help of @comex's Userland Jailbreak.

Think I'm the first one I know about to get a root shell (and SSH) on iPhone 4, using poor @comex's code (since he has no iPhone 4).

@musclenerd even congratulated the hackers for a job well done!

Congrats to @comex for another userland JB http://is.gd/d5N6I hi-res Cydia via @planetbeing & @chpwn iPhone4s

It's safe for us here in Singapore to know that when we finally get our hands on the iPhone 4, there'll be a Jailbreak software waiting for us to Jailbreak our brand new iPhone 4 babies. But as for now, this new Jailbreak for the iPhone 4 cannot be released.

@p0sixninja: the jailbreak shown is a more of a stepping stone for us, it can't be released because it includes some of apples software

@planetbeing: Don't want to speak for @comex, but afaik no one has breathed a word about release date and what we have right now is nowhere ready.

As you can see below are 2 screenshots of Cydia, the top is mine and the bottom is from Planetbeing, you can see the difference in resolution of the iPhone 3GS (mine) and iPhone 4 (Planetbeing).

iPhone 4 gets BLENDED

Will It Blend have published a video of an iPhone 4 blended to bits! Take a look at the video below!

Note: Not for the faint-hearted Apple fans.

iPhone 4 Camera beats other Smartphones

Macworld recently reviewed the new iPhone 4 camera with other high-end smartphones & entry-level digital cameras of the current time.

The iPhone 4 had, by a healthy margin, the best exposure and color scores of the entire bunch, beating out even the point-and-shoot cameras. It did run into trouble in the sharpness and distortion categories, performing much lower than the pocket cameras and similarly to the Droid.

While its image quality was impressive, it was the iPhone 4’s video capabilities that really stole the show in our lab tests. The Flip, which also records 720p, 30fps video, had just slightly better video quality than the iPhone 4, even in low-light.

To Conclude:

Apple said the quality of the camera parts is more important to capturing good photos than a high megapixel count. Our lab's test results support that theory, showing that a 5-megapixel camera can shoot higher quality images than an 8-megapixel camera.

iPhone 4 rushed in production?

I think some chinese worker in Foxconn thinks its funny by reversing the Volume buttons on the iPhone 4. In the latest photo recieved by 9to5mac.com, the '+' and the '-' buttons have been swapped! Although the functions actually remained the same (meaning to say '-' increases the volume and '+' decreases the volume'), Apple have been under fire with SO many manufacturing issues on the iPhone 4.

Maybe the workers at Foxconn are playing Punk? xD

Apple Response to iPhone 4 Network Issues.

As you have known, pass few hours have been hecktic for most new iPhone 4 users in the US. Signal drops to ZERO if its held on your left hand.. Yes, it does sounds silly.. tough luck for left-handies.. :D

According to Engadget, Aram sent Steve Jobs the following email:

I love my new iPhone 4(nice work) but when I put my hand on the steel bands I lose all reception. It appears to be a common issue. Any plans to fix this?

Jobs replied,

Just avoid holding it in that way.

An Apple rep has also made an official annoucement,

Gripping any mobile phone will result in some attenuation of its antenna performance, with certain places being worse than others depending on the placement of the antennas. This is a fact of life for every wireless phone. If you ever experience this on your iPhone 4, avoid gripping it in the lower left corner in a way that covers both sides of the black strip in the metal band, or simply use one of many available cases.

No wonder Apple created the Bumper!

Here is a video some time in the 2008, an iPhone 3G shows the same issues.

iPhone 4 Loses Reception? Part II

More news about the lousy reception on the iPhone 4....

Video by Insanely Great Mac shows holding the iPhone 4 with your left hand drops call..

This is weird. Touching the lower left corner of the iPhone 4 consistently drops calls. I've been testing this all night and here's a replication on video. The test was performed four times, but it could have been 40. Whether the palm of the and, should, neck, or any body part results in quickly dropping the call. This does not appear to affect the iPhone 3GS, which was tested with the iPhone 4.

How to Check the Bootrom or non-MC for 3GS or ipt2G.

What??? Don't know what it means?? let me break it down for you...

When Apple created the iPhone3GS the Bootrom was the same as iPhone3G thus able to jailbreak with the same exploit as the other iDevices, then came the new shipment of iPhone3GS with new Bootrom (iBoot-359.3.2) which gives the jailbreak community headaches..

As for the iPodtouch2G, same story... So, the important part here is to be able to tell the difference with the older model and the newer (more challenging) model.

iPodtouch2G: How to check?
Good: MBxxxxx; Bad: MCxxxxx

Settings->General->About->Model: MCxxxxx or MBxxxxx?

This is how you compare MC or non-MC model for the iPodtouch2G.

iPhone3GS: How to check?

Method 1:
You can determine your production week from the Serial number in your Setting->General->About screen.

The week number is usually the 4th and 5th digit of the serial number. eg. a SN beginning with 88926xxxxxx would be week 26 of 2009.

3Gs units made week 45 or later usually have the Newer bootrom. Before week 40 they usually have the Older one. Between weeks 40 and 45, results vary, use Method 2.

Method 2:
Good: iBoot-359.3; Bad: iBoot-359.3.2

Put your iPhone into DFU mode. (iClarified)

Using Windows:

  • Go to Start->Control Panel->System->Hardware->Device Manager on your Windows machine.

  • Look for 'Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller', you will find 'Apple Mobile Device USB Driver' as a subitem there.

  • Right Click and choose 'Properties', navigate to 'Details' tab and select Device Instance Path from the dropdown list box. At the end of this information string, you will find the bootrom version, eg. [iBoot-359.x].

Using Mac:

  • Open System Profiler and navigate to Hardware->USB in the left menu.

  • In the USB Device Tree pane at top right, click on 'Apple Mobile Device (DFU Mode).'

  • In the information pane at bottom right, locate the 'Serial Number' string. At the end of this information string, you will find the bootrom version, eg. ;iBoot-359.x].

After checking, remember to Hold Power + Home Button till the Apple logo appears.

How to Downgrade from iOS 4.0 to OS 3.1.2.

WOOHOO!! I was doing the stardard method to downgrade my iPhone3GS to OS 3.1.2 from iOS 4.0 when IT CRASHED!!!
Keeps giving the 1015 ERROR!!

Thankfully I remained calm by jumping up and down the walls of my room, i found a solution! (did alittle googling of cos xD)

Preparation:
Download OS 3.1.2 IPSW file and Redsn0w.
Files are provided below.

Its crucial that you follow these steps EXACTLY!

Here are the steps:

1. Right-click on to Notepad and select Run as Administrator.
2. Open the file C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts (Windows) or /etc/hosts (Mac OS X) and add the following entry to the bottom of the file.
74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com

Restore
———-
3. Connect your iPhone to the USB and put it into DFU mode. iTunes will display an alert stating you need to restore your device, click ok then on Mac: Hold option + click restore, on Windows: Hold Shift + click restore and navigate to your previously downloaded 3.1.2 FW.

4. After the restore finishes you should be hit with a 1015 error. That’s expected. Your phone should be in Recovery mode now and iTunes will tell you to restore again. Click OK then hold option + click on restore again – this time you do not have to go into DFU mode – and navigate to the 3.1.2 FW.

Jailbreak
———–
5. After the restore finishes again it’ll throw another 1015 error. That’s expected again. This time, just select OK and close iTunes. Open Redsn0w 0.9.4 and jailbreak as normal. Uncheck all the ticks while jailbreaking.

6. After the jailbreak is finalized your device should reboot and strange enough you successfully downgraded to 3.1.2.

-by Kamrul (edited by Me)

Redsn0w:

OS 3.1.2:

Sn0wbreeze Jailbreak for 3GS, 3G & ipt2G (Windows only).

Yes it's true you can now jailbreak your iPhone 3GS on windows!

Sn0wbreeze is a tool for Windows® that will jailbreak your iPods and iPhones, setup custom boot logos, activate your iPhone, root partition size, build custom IPSW, and more!

[gallery columns="2"]

Warning: Spirit Jailbreakers: Do Not Update while using the Spirit JB Exploit. Use RedSn0w, PwnageTool, or Sn0wBreeze to jailbreak first, and THEN you may use these new tools.

Requirements:

  • iDevice must be already Jailbroken.

  • Must not be Jailbroken with Spirit.

Device Supported:

  • iPhone 3GS (old bootrom)

  • iPhone 3G (might require DFU)

  • iPod touch 2G (non MC model)

*NOTE: Not sure if you are non-MC or old bootrom? Check here or here.

In almost every case, you need to be previously jailbroken except for the 3G, but you must NOT be jailbroken with Spirit.

If you have already upgraded to iOS 4.0, don't worry! Just follow my guide

These devices have been tested with iTunes > 9. (Up to and including 9.2)

  • iPhone 3GS

  • iPod Touch 3G

  • iPod Touch 2G

iPhone 4 Drop Test

iFixit.com just post a video of an iPhone 4 drop test (OUCH!).
It was posted on YouTube not too long ago.

Here is the first iPhone 4 drop test performed by iFixYouri.com - Nothing scientific, no editing, just holding the phone where you would normally hold it to use it, and drop it to the ground.

We made sure the area where we dropped it had no debris.

Results:
Drop 1 - Ok
Drop 2 - Still Ok - Seemed to have turned off
Drop 3 - Landed on back - scuffs
Drop 4 - Cracked iPhone Screen
The 4th drop did it in.

  • The rugged stainless steel bezels around the iPhone 4's perimeter double as both structural supports and antennas to boost reception.

  • Actual capacity of 29.06 GB. Given the fact that 301 MB of "other" data is being stored in memory, this leaves the user with 28.77 GB of free space.

  • iPhone 4 comes preinstalled with the newly released iOS 4, build 8A293

  • The iPhone 4 is Model A1332. Interestingly, that's a lower number than the A1337 iPad 3G.

  • Unlike the iPhone 3GS and iPad, who are both equipped with 256 MB, the iPhone 4 has a whopping 512 MB!

  • 3.7V 1420 mAh Li-Polymer battery

  • Front-facing VGA camera, Rear-facing 5 MP camera with 720p video at 30 FPS, tap to focus feature, and LED flash.

  • Apple has integrated the UMTS, GSM, GPS, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth antennas into the stainless steel inner frame.

  • iPhone 4 uses the 1 GHz ARM Cortex A8 core, much like its bigger sibling, the iPad.

  • Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS are all provided by Broadcom.

  • Second microphone, which is used to cut out ambient noise and improve sound quality when talking on the phone.

  • The front glass panel of the iPhone is constructed of Corning Gorilla Glass, a chemically strengthened alkali-aluminosilicate thin sheet glass that is reported to be 20 times stiffer and 30 times harder than plastic.

  • Gorilla Glass holds many advantages as the iPhone 4's front panel including its high resistance to wear and increased strength from an ion-exchange chemical strengthening process.

biteSMS now supports iOS 4.0!

Finally its official. biteSMS 4.9 is out of beta and released its compatible version for iOS 4.0. No new features introduced just a major port to iOS 4.0 and it does continue to support OS 3.

Changelog

Version 4.9
22 June 2010

  • biteSMS now works on the recently released Apple iOS 4 Software Update!!!

For existing users on OS 3, this release is functionally the same as biteSMS 4.8 apart from some minor bug fixes.

Known issues:

  • QL icon shifts around sometimes.

  • For QC, QR and QL starting in landscape mode inside another landscape app only then (QC, QR, QL) alert displays weird and cut&paste menu is partially off the screen. This is proving very hard to fix.

  • Cursor disappears in QC in unlock mode only – this does not impact using it, just a cosmetic thing.

PwnageTool Jailbreak for 3GS, 3G & ipt2G (Mac only)

About 4 hours ago (while i was still sleeping),
iPhone Dev-Team released a Jailbreak tool for the iPhone 3GS! How quick is that? FYI, the Jailbreak tool is only for the Mac (sad thing for us on Windows).

Update #1 (7:56am): Jailbreak Guide by iClarified released (below).
Update #2 (3:08pm): Guide for iPhone 3G.
Update #3 (4:49pm): PwnageTool 4.0 Updated to PwnageTool 4.01 (links updated).
Updare #4 (24/6 10:57am): Guide for iPod touch 2G.

PwnageTool 4.01 Release Info

NB: With PwnageTool 4.01 certain devices are not supported this is because they are not supported in iOS 4.0 or they are not supported by our software. We’re working on ways to get past these restrictions.

  • iPhone 2G - not supported

  • iPod Touch - not supported

  • iPod Touch 3G - not supported

PwnageTool 4.01 only recognizes the official IPSWs that came out yesterday. If you had developer access to the “4.0 GM” IPSWs, do not try to use those.

iPhone 3GS

Summary: Currently, PwnageTool only works on previously jailbroken 3GS devices with the old bootrom.

  • If you have a Jailbroken iPhone 3GS with the OLD BOOTROM and you DID NOT use Spirit to jailbreak then you can create the ipsw with PwnageTool 4.0 and restore with your jailbroken recovery mode.

  • If you have an iPhone 3GS with the NEW BOOTROM this is NOT supported by PwnageTool 4.01

iPhone 3G

  • If you have a Jailbroken iPhone 3G at 3.1.2 (but not jailbroken with Spirit) then you should create the ipsw with PwnageTool 4.01 and restore from recovery mode or DFU mode.

  • If you have an out of the box iPhone 3G you should restore using a PwnageTool 4.01 ipsw using DFU mode.

  • If you have a Jailbroken 3.1.3 iPhone 3G it is very possible that this can fail from recovery mode, if this failure happens you will need to restore using DFU mode.

  • As an alternative to PwnageTool, you can use Redsn0w on iPhone 3G (on both Windows and Mac).

IMPORTANT! Whenever you need to enter DFU mode, you will need to do so using PwnageTool.

iPod touch 2G

  • If you have an iPod touch 2G (non-MC model) that is jailbroken (but not with Spirit) then you can restore using recovery mode.

  • As an alternative to PwnageTool, you can use Redsn0w on non-MC iPod Touch 2G (on both Windows and Mac).

Baseband Unlock

  • As you probably know by now, ultrasn0w has been updated to cover all basebands from 04.26.08 onward. Many thanks to @sherif_hashim for finding the crashing command that the new ultrasn0w 0.93 uses! He worked hard at finding the crash, and he kept it confidential until the right time to use it.

  • Major props to @oranav (who found the earlier +xlog crash). He also had this crashing command!

  • iPhone 3G and 3GS baseband unlockers (those who rely on ultrasn0w to make phone calls) should always be very wary to update their firmware, however our Ultrasn0w application will unlock all recent (including the current) 3GS and 3G baseband firmware versions. Once you are jailbroken using PwnageTool 4.01, install ultrasn0w from Cydia and you’ll be unlocked.

  • Remember! This baseband unlock situation is rare, should you upgrade your iPhone blindly at the next iOS release please don’t expect an unlock - but for now you are OK (whatever state your baseband is in).

biteSMS - Just as easy, but cheaper!

Since i started using iPhone3G, biteSMS was the best Jailbreak app out there! It's so useful to a person like me who SMSes 3,000 msgs in a MONTH, that i actually bought the app! worth every penny..

biteSMS also provides a credit system where you can purchase a certain amount of credits to send as an SMS through their network. Good for people who travel often cause the credits are at a fixed rate.

In light of the new iOS 4.0,
biteSMS have been upgrading itself to support the new firmware.
try it out yourself! biteSMS is free now (with ads)!

biteSMS 4.9 will be released soon to support iOS 4.0.

Redsn0w Jailbreak for 3G & ipt2G (PC & Mac)

The iPhone Dev-Team released a beta Jailbreak for the iPhone3G and iPod Touch 2G.

Update #1 (1:06pm): Jailbreak guide released by iClarified (Mac only for now) below.
Update #2 (1:23pm): For Windows too.
Update #3 (23/06 10:07am): There’s a new redsn0w beta (links were updated below) that should fix any iBooks problems people were seeing. Just run this new version 0.9.5b5-4 and deselect Cydia (you don’t want to reinstall Cydia over itself).
Update #4 (30/06 8:28am): There’s a new redsn0w beta (links were changed below) that should fix any APN or MMS issues that users were seeing. It’s safe to re-run it on an already jailbroken iPhone without restoring… Just deselect “Install Cydia” if you do that.

redsn0w beta has been updated to hacktivate iOS 4.0 for iPhone3G (in addition to jailbreaking the iPhone3G and iPod Touch 2G).

Requirements:

  • iTunes 9.2

  • iPhone3G and iPodTouch2G (for now)

  • Windows & Mac OSX

  • iOS 4.0 only (for now)

The download links for redsn0w 0.9.5b5-5 are:

For now, the redsn0w beta release supports only the iPhone3G and iPod Touch 2G at today’s 4.0. It’s still a beta, so you’ll need to let Cydia reorganize, reload, and update after using redsn0w.

iOS 4.0..

Apple is supposed to release iOS 4.0 today 21/06/10 but apparently I'm in Singapore so its gonna be "delayed"...

Well... pass 3 days I've been on iOS 4.0 without Jailbreak and its pretty awesome! without regrets i can say.. this 3 days have been the longest time I've not Jailbroken my device.. and surprisingly iOS 4.0 wasn't torturing as I've thought it would..

Here i’m.. Again..

Its been a very very long time since i started blogging.. seems like a good time to start up again... hope this'll be fun.. xD
